(PhD) Biological Sciences

Invited for interview by dept via email on Dec 18. Interview weekend Jan 28-29. Accepted by dept (with 1st year funding info) via email on Feb 9, said official email from grad studies will come next week.

Double majored with minor and emphasis, summa cu* laude, TA, and lots of extracurriculars/leadership experience plus awards and honor societies. Really it was my post-grad full-time research experience and strong relationship with PI that got me accepted. Worked with PI for 2.5 years before applying. Presented at several conferences, 2 co-authorships, and 1 first-author publication.

I don't even know what to think of the program because I was interviewed via Skype and didn't have a chance to see the campus and talk to the faculty of interest.

Doctor Of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy, (PhD, Ph.D., DPhil or D.Phil.) is a degree a person gets from a university by finishing a doctorate program. In many areas of study, the PhD/DPhil is the highest degree that a person can earn (this is called the "terminal degree"). There are PhD/DPhil degrees for many different fields, such as PhDs/DPhils in literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and engineering. Some PhD/DPhil degrees have existed for hundreds of years, such as the PhD/DPhil in Canon Law. Other PhD/DPhil degrees were developed in the 1970s and 1980s, such as the PhD/DPhil in Computer Science.

Graduate Record Examination

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is globally accepted for admissions to graduate and PhD programs. GRE scores are used for cutoffs only. A good GRE score will not guarantee admission to top colleges, but a low GRE score can definitely disqualify you from considering your application.
