Five years of funding (including 4 summers). My MA GPA from McGill was 3.66, but 4.0 in classes I took at the Berkeley soc dept. One minor pub, 3 strong LORs from respected profs (McGill sup, UCB sup, and a tenured prof who was impressed by my conference presentation), five years of research experience (qual and quant), and a couple of presentations at big conferences.

Five years of funding (including 3-4 summers). Prospective student meeting will be in late Feb or March. I entered York University in Toronto as a 25 year old for my BA, and this has been a circuitous and somewhat difficult road because of my social location. Sorry for writing up my life-story, but I hope it is reassuring to others like me.

Doctor Of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy, (PhD, Ph.D., DPhil or D.Phil.) is a degree a person gets from a university by finishing a doctorate program. In many areas of study, the PhD/DPhil is the highest degree that a person can earn (this is called the "terminal degree"). There are PhD/DPhil degrees for many different fields, such as PhDs/DPhils in literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and engineering. Some PhD/DPhil degrees have existed for hundreds of years, such as the PhD/DPhil in Canon Law. Other PhD/DPhil degrees were developed in the 1970s and 1980s, such as the PhD/DPhil in Computer Science.

Graduate Record Examination

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is globally accepted for admissions to graduate and PhD programs. GRE scores are used for cutoffs only. A good GRE score will not guarantee admission to top colleges, but a low GRE score can definitely disqualify you from considering your application.
